Pesticide Applicator Training
PRINTED MANUAL: You must purchase a new training manual every time you need to get (re)certified. The private training manual will come with a Training Registration Certificate inside the front cover that you will need to present to the proctor at the time of testing. Training manuals will NOT be sold out of the Extension Office as in previous years. Training manuals cost $43 and must be purchased online through the UW PAT store and paid for via credit card here: online store, or you can download a Mail Order Form to pay with a check. The PAT Store cannot take phone orders. The manuals will be shipped to you directly, usually the same day that they receive the order.
SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING
These are optional training materials that you can select if you wish. The price of these items is in addition to the required training, but again, these are meant to be supplements to the main training above and are not required.
ONLINE VIDEO TRAINING. These online videos can take the place of in-person or ZOOM training for the General Farm category. They will cover the same material as the in-person sessions. You will need to have a computer, a good internet connection, email, and audio capabilities. Online video training is available year-round. You have 14 days once you have started the training to complete the online training. KEEP YOUR EMAIL WITH LINK. If you stop during the training, clicking the link will take you back to the last thing you did. If you have watched a video, make sure you click the blue arrow button to advance to the next module before you stop. To return to that module, click the training link in your email. Switching devices will not work, please use the same computer or tablet to complete the training.
Upon completion of this training, you will receive a “completion receipt.” You MUST show this receipt to your exam proctor when you take your private applicator test. The receipt indicates you have completed the training and allows your test to be coded for the 50% pass score. You will need to take the Exam in person at a participating County Extension Office or online with Pearson VUE (NOTE: If you take the exam online with Pearson VUE you will be required to pass with 70% regardless of any supplemental training you may have done). You can register for the videos in our online store.
LIVE TRAINING / REVIEW SESSIONS. These in-person sessions are held from January through April for the General Farm category. These one-day sessions are meant to be a general review of material in your manual and DO NOT cover everything that might appear on the certification exam. At the end of the review session, you have the opportunity to take the exam right away while the information is still fresh in your mind. Registration for review sessions will open in November for the following spring. You can sign up for sessions in the UW PAT online store. NOTE: PAT-hosted training sessions and county-hosted Zoom training sessions are all listed on this page. Space is limited. THERE WILL BE A GENERAL FARMING LIVE TRAINING/TESTING DAY IN DODGEVILLE ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23 AT DODGER BOWL, cost is $10 to attend.
ZOOM ON-SITE TRAINING SESSIONS. These computer-based webinars are held from January through April and are hosted by regional Ag Educators, typically at county Extension offices or designated locations. They will cover the same material as the in-person sessions. You can sign up for sessions in the UW PAT online store, webinars are not recorded. NOTE: PAT-hosted training sessions and county-hosted Zoom training sessions are all listed on this page. THERE ARE NO ZOOM TRAINING SESSIONS SCHEDULED IN IOWA COUNTY THIS YEAR, but you are welcome to register and attend a Zoom training session in another county. There are sessions in Rock County on February 15th and March 12th, in Sauk County on April 15th, and in Vernon County on March 12th and April 11th. Session starts at 9:00 AM and will end approximately 3:30 pm. The test will be provided in the afternoon. Each person attending MUST register. Each person must have the training manual before testing.
SPECIAL NOTES:
- Attending/watching any of the supplemental training sessions will allow you to pass the in-person certification exam with a score of 50% instead of 70%
- Supplemental training uses the General Farm Manual, however attending/watching any of the above sessions will allow you to pass the in-person Fruit Crop or Greenhouse exam with only a 50% score.
- If you take the exam online with Pearson VUE you will be required to pass with 70% regardless of any supplemental training you may have done. There is also a $45 charge per exam taken through Pearson VUE
Pre-registration and purchase of materials is required for all the sessions. To request special accommodations, please do so at least one week in advance. The manual should be reviewed in advance of taking the class.
